We eliminated a pick system here at Blue Heaven when placing puppies, rather we fit the puppy with the appropriate family based on temperament. We observe the puppies from the time they are born and do temperament testing to assure that each puppy will mesh well with their new family. We realize many folks would like a certain color or sex and try to accommodate when we can, but try to encourage families to keep an open mind in that regard as the puppy that would do best with you may be a different sex or color than what you are hoping for.
We plan each breeding well ahead of time, and only breed once or twice per year. We strive for quality not quantity and take excellent care of the expectant Mother. When the puppies are due we sleep next to the whelping box and have a video monitor on the mother as well. The Mother is always assisted as she delivers her puppies and we stay with her and the brood 24/7 for at least the first week to make sure everyone is nursing and Mom is doing a good job cleaning up and caring for her puppies.
All dogs used for breeding have the appropriate health clearances, see each individual dogs page for that information. Females are not used for breeding until after age 2 when they have final OFA certifications. Temperament is of key importance, and strive for a sweet low key temperament always.
We do not place puppies into homes if you are renting, because if for some reason you have to move, or the rental becomes unavailable, you may end up not being able to find a pet friendly home. We know this firsthand as we own rental homes and are landlords. We expect all new puppy families to sign a contract stating that if for any reason during the entire life of your dog you find yourself in a situation where you cannot keep him/her you will return the dog to Blue Heaven for us to place in an appropriate home. We act as our own rescue and do not want our dogs in shelters etc.
Puppies may go to new homes at 8 weeks of age. They will have had a distemper/Parvo shot, wormed several times, and a microchip. We give detailed instructions on feeding, vaccinations (we follow Dr. Jean Dodds vaccination protocol), worming etc. All puppies are pre-registered at our expense with AKC, you may choose the name and call name.
